Student Resources

Enabling you to reach your full potential.

COUNSELLING

Our faculty and staff provide pastoral care, counsel, spiritual direction, and informal mentoring. Students can safely seek pastoral care from our Campus Chaplains. If professional counseling is needed, the Dean of Students can arrange a referral to one of our own designated counseling centres.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

The Student Support Office offers services to students who could benefit from academic support. Through creating a positive, Christ-centered atmosphere of encouragement and academic excellence, the Student Support Office will strive to bring holistic success in the life of every student.

Academic Discipleship Team

The ADT assists in supporting students in their studies at PLBC. This team is made up of student leaders who exemplify Christ-like character and a willingness to journey with students to build positive peer relationships and academic support. Talk to Ryan DelBlanc if you are interested in joining the ADT!

ADT members get top priority for TA work as they are intentionally investing in the student body academically. We honour them by giving them first-call decisions for TA opportunities.

ACADEMIC ACCOMMODATIONS

The Student Development Office is committed to supporting each student in reaching his or her potential. PLBC understands that there are students who are determined to serve God and grow spiritually but face significant challenges when it comes to formal education.

PLBC offers Academic Accommodations for students with disabilities or who are in an exceptionally difficult season. Students with documented disabilities (physical, sensory, learning, or mental health) are encouraged to contact the Student Development Office for assistance and/or further information.

What documentation is needed?

You will need to submit documentation from the appropriate medical professional to the Student Support Office. All information regarding disability will be kept confidential. Access to your information will only be available to personnel in the Student Development Office who directly provide disability services. If the Admissions Department receives any documentation of disability, the documentation is sent directly to the Student Development Office.

Valid forms of documentation include, but are not limited to:

  1. Signed Doctor’s notes
  2. Highschool Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
  3. Psycho-Education Assessments

What are some typical accommodations?

  • Possible extensions for assignments (consult with faculty)
  • Use of a personal computer for notetaking
  • Use of a personal audio-recording device for lectures (to be done by student)
  • A study guide for quizzes and exams
  • Extended time for writing quizzes and exams
  • Quiet space for writing exams
  • Use of a computer for writing exams (no internet access, unless permitted by instructor)
  • Reader or scribe during exams
  • Class notes from peers

How do I register?

Once the Student Development Office has obtained adequate documentation of disability, an appointment must be scheduled with the SSC to determine the parameters of the student’s Accommodation Letter. The SSC will then write the Accommodation Letter and supply the student and the Student Development Office with the official, signed letter.

Students will need to submit an Accommodations Request Form at the beginning of every semester (even if requested in previous semesters). The following is the process for applying for accommodations:

First Semester of Accommodations:

  • Support Coordinator to discuss difficulties and see if you are eligible for Accommodations. (Bring disability documentation)
  • Wait for Accommodations letter from SSC.
  • Upon receiving Accommodations letter, submit an Accommodations Request Form to SSC. (link form)
  • Wait for confirmation from SSC.
  • If approved, get Accommodations letters signed by instructors, return one copy from each class to the SSC.
  • Access Accommodations as needed in coordination with instructors.

Subsequent Semesters:

  • Support Coordinator to discuss difficulties and see if you are eligible for Accommodations. (Bring disability documentation)
  • Submit an Accommodations Request Form to the Student Support Coordinator.
  • Wait for confirmation from SSC.
  • If approved, get accommodations letters signed by instructors, return one copy from each class to the SSC.
  • Access accommodations as needed in coordination with instructors.

Is there any funding available?

Yes! Pacific Life Bible College is a designated Educational Institute with the Province of British Columbia and its students are eligible for Canada Student Loans, including the Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities and the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Permanent Disabilities. It is the responsibility of the student to pursue this funding. Forms can be found at https://studentaidbc.ca/form-library. Completed forms should be submitted to the front counter or to the Student Support Coordinator. Students applying for funding for students with permanent disabilities are encouraged to make an appointment with the Student Support Coordinator to become familiar with the types of student support available at PLBC.

BOOKSTORE & MERCH

You will find our bookstore in the main office. Order your books ahead of time through your Populi student account or just come in and we will be happy to assist you. You can also ask about the different seasonal merch items we carry and perhaps grab yourself a PLBC sweater while you’re at it!

ACADEMIC COACHING

Academic Coaching is a one-on-one support program designed to help students successfully achieve their academic goals. Students meet with an Academic Coach for a minimum of 10 sessions throughout the semester to establish foundational studying, scheduling, and organizing skills. Through creating a personalized program, healthy habits and accountability enable students to excel in their academic studies.

Students interested in signing up for DEV 001: Academic Coaching should contact the Student Support Coordinator as soon as possible before the semester starts.
