Course Description
The objective of this course is to introduce you to the Story of Christianity through time. It will explore the movements, and personalities in the church from the Reformation (c1500 AD) to present day. By exploring the renewing and reforming works of God in these events, movements and personalities, the student will gain perspectives regarding where we have come from as a church, where we are now, and some indications of where we are heading.
Course Objectives & Learning Outcomes
As a result of taking this course students should be able to:
1. Be familiar with and able to share the Story of Christianity as it has been understood and told from the Reformation to the present period.
2. Be familiar with the key church leaders through the centuries and be conversant with the contributions they made to the life of the church and society as a whole.
3. Discuss the controversies that have become significant to the formation of doctrines and church groups.
4. Describe different groups and movements within the life of the church and understand how these affect the church today.
5. Explain how changes in culture and learning have profoundly affected Christianity and will know how church leaders have responded to such changes.
6. To encourage understanding of the present and the nature, place, and mission of the church in our own day through critical reflection of the past.
