Christian English Language Immersion
The Christian English Language Immersion (ELI) program includes a variety of English language courses, mixed with Bible and theology classes. The program is designed to improve the student’s English in preparation for future studies.
ELI is different from typical ESL programs in that it exists to enrich the Christian life of intermediate and advanced English language learners. Alongside classes, students are immersed in college life, having the opportunity to participate in all college activities and use the English skills they are learning in their classes.
Our program is offered in three tracks: in-class, hybrid, and online.Students only require a Student Visa if they take the 8-month program through the in-class track. The hybrid and online track do not require a Canada Student Visa.
Before I came to PLBC, I wasn’t really interested in the Bible or theology – I mainly came to learn English. While studying in the ELI program, I not only improved my English but found a deep passion for the word of God.
PURPOSE
This program gives intermediate and advanced English language learners an opportunity to study the Bible and Christian doctrine in an English-speaking environment, as well as receive formal English language training. The Christian English Language Immersion (ELI) program is different from ESL programs in that it exists to enrich the Christian life of intermediate and advanced English language learners. Students receive a selection of formal English language training, participate in Bible and theology classes, and are immersed in the life of the college by attending chapels and participating in campus activities. It is a welcoming way to practice English in a Christian setting.
PROGRAM LENGTH
Students may study for 4 or 8 months.
International students require a visitor’s visa for one semester (4 months) or a Canada Immigration study permit to study full-time for two semesters (8-month program).

Evaluation & Credit
Students are evaluated at the beginning of the program to determine their current level of English proficiency. Grades for English courses are based on how the student has advanced from where they started the program. In this way, the program is personally tailored to the individual learner. Students of this program do not receive academic credit transferable to the college’s other certificate, diploma, or degree programs.
Chapel
We are a spiritual learning community where life together in prayer and worship is a priority, and therefore, we gather weekly for chapel. Students are required to attend scheduled chapels each week and participate in other opportunities to deepen their theological knowledge and experience.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
The applicant must be an intermediate English language learner and meet the regular requirements for admissions outlined in the catalogue. International students require a visitor’s visa for one semester (4 months) or a Canada Immigration study permit to study fulltime for two semesters (8-month program).
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
- Read and write English with greater proficiency.
- Listen to and speak English with greater proficiency.
- Learn more grammar and theological English vocabulary.
- Know the major eras, themes, and persons of the Bible.
OVERVIEW
Each semester, students will complete three English courses: Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking, and Grammar and Theological Vocabulary. In addition, students will also receive 10 Private Tutoring sessions. Students will attend two additional Bible and theology courses each semester. Fall semester will be ELI 080 Old Testament Survey with one other course and Spring semester will be ELI 090 New Testament Survey with one additional course. For these courses, students will attend regular college classes but have different assignments. ELI students do not receive college credit for their Pacific Life Bible College courses.
