Course Description and Objectives
A historical and expository study of the life of Christ as revealed in the Gospels. Particular emphasis is given to the nature and teachings of Jesus and how they are worked out through His disciples then and now. The Gospels are foundational books for Christians. The four Gospels are literary compositions situated in history with a theological message for GOD’s people. They artistically and culturally record the life of Jesus, the Messiah, as the climax of Israel’s history and God’s covenant
relationship with Israel as well as all humanity. This class will (1) examine the four Gospels as a whole both from vertical and horizontal readings, (2) survey the content of each Gospel (Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John), (3) examine and discuss issues concerning the historical Jesus, and (4) discover how the specific message of each Gospel is relevant for today.
